As this year’s Christmas and New Year celebrations draw near, the Bayelsa State Police Command has restated that its ban on the use of fireworks in the state was still in force.

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday in Yenagoa signed by the state police command’s spokesperson, Asinim Butswat, a Deputy Superintendent of Police.

He reiterated the commitment of the command to ensure peaceful celebration of the Yuletide season in the state.

Butswat said that the police command had beefed up security in Bayelsa.

According to him, there would be increased vehicular and foot patrols as well as intensive surveillance in every nook and cranny.

He also said the command was soliciting the support and cooperation of members of the public to ensure a hitch-free Christmas and New Year festivities.

“Parents and guardians are advised to warn their wards to desist from the use of any fireworks during and after the Yuletide.

“Any person caught violating the ban would be arrested and prosecuted”, Butswat warned.
