Seriously, the sparkly gem takes up a third of her finger. They revealed their engagement via the ‘gram, and it seems like the Love Don’t Cost A Thing star has finally found the elusive ‘one,’ the king to share her empire with.
Lopez has made headlines for her music, her dancing and her colourful, often high profile dating life.
Some of her romantic ventures led to marriages (three of them), others were flirtatious flings whilst some were nothing more than whispers. As she loves it up with A-Rod in Baker’s Bay, let’s run through some of her biggest love stories – and why they crashed and burned. Jennifer Lopez and David Cruz, 1984-1994 Every star had it –
that pre-fame relationship. For Lopez it was with David Cruz, her high school sweet heart. They began dating when she was just 15 years old. As her celebrity grew, so it was to be that her relationship with David shrunk, until the pair called it quits in 1994.
The pair divorced in January 1998 after just 11 months of marriage after her career took off. It wasn’t an amicable split, and the singer has sued Noa on a number of occasions, including to prevent him from publishing a book about their relationship and later to stop him from sharing a video of their honeymoon in Cuba. Rawr.
Jennifer Lopez and Sean Combs, 1991-2001 Jennifer Lopez wore an iconic emerald Versace gown at the 2000 Grammys, but the world was more interested in what she had on her arm – P Diddy. The pair had been dating for a year at that point, after they met while Lopez was working on her first album, On The 6. Everything seemed to be diamonds and roses for hip hop’s ‘It’ couple, but they weren’t to last.
The relationship ended in 2001, and years later J Lo revealed that Combs’ infidelity was to blame. In a 2003 interview with Vibe magazine, she said: ‘I was in a relationship with Puff [Combs] where O was totally crying, crazy and going nuts, it really took my whole life in a tailspin. ‘I never caught him but I just knew. He’d say he was going to a club for a couple of hours and then never come back that night.’ Oh, Diddy. The rapper has said he ‘absolutely approves’ of MLB star Alex, but not before admitting J Lo is ‘without a doubt’ one of his great loves. Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd, (M. 2001-2002) Cris Judd was another short-lived marriage for the singer. Following the aftermath of her relationship with P Diddy, Jennifer moved on in a whirlwind romance with the choreographer. The pair met in 2000 when he was hired to direct her iconic music video Love Don’t Cost A Thing. After just 10 months together, the pair drew a line. J Lo has for the most part kept quiet about their relationship, but Judd revealed that her fame made their relationship impossible. The 45-year-old dancer talked about his failed marriage at a 2014 Industry Dance Awards show in Hollywood. According to US Weekly, he talked about the struggles being with a high profile celeb. ‘You know it’s very tough,’ he said. ‘Your privacy is breached. You’re no longer a normal person. [Our wedding] was a circus. I think several people for arrested trying to climb up a mountain…trying to sneak in. we actually rented the airspace.’ Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, (2002- January 2004) It’s the early 2000s. J Lo just released Jenny From The Block. She’s what everyone is talking about. The obvious next step is to date a high profile Hollywood actor. Enter Bennifer. Ben Affleck met Jennifer on the set of the movie Gigli and popped the question just four months into dating. Ever the romantic, Jennifer said yes. The pair wouldn’t last (Picture: Rex) In what had become a depressing cycle, the relationship was to come to a crashing end. She experienced her first real heartbreak when the Academy Award winning actor called off their wedding in January. The fairy tale ended, and Lopez recalled years later that it felt like her ‘heart ahd been torn out of my chest.’
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, (M. 2004-July 2011) This one is a milestone relationship for the star, and in the course of her seven year marriage to singer Marc Anthony, Jennifer gave birth to twins Max and Emme (in 2008). In what is a pattern of swift engagements, Jennifer said ‘yes’ to marrying Anthony mere weeks after the pair started dating.
The couple worked together throughout their marriage and after (Picture: Rex) The pair split in 2011 but they remain on good terms. In December last year J Lo told the Today show that her ex-husband ‘helped me with my confidence, and saw where I suffered.’ He would insist she is a ‘great singer. Don’t ever let anybody tell you you’re not a great singer.’ Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart, (2011- 2016) The 47-year-old sugar mama’s next beau was 29-year-old backup dancer Casper.
The relationship was at the centre of tabloids because of the wide age gap, but the pair seemed happy for the years they were together. The break up wasn’t acrimonious – without kids or marriage tethering them together, it is said to have come to a ‘natural end.’ Jennifer Lopez and Drake, (2016) You remember that 2016 photo that got the world going crazy: it featured Drake and J Lo cosied up together on a coach. Rumours were aflame that the 31-year-old rapper and Lopez had a brief but fiery fling.
Neither parties confirmed nor denied the dating claims, which only fanned rumours. View this post on Instagram A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on Dec 27, 2016 at 11:38pm PST It didn’t help that Drake seemed to have referenced ‘losing J Lo’ in his single Diplomatic Immunity. The lyrics in Diplomatic Immunity, in particular, hint towards heartbreak as Drake announced:
‘2010 was when I lost my halo / 2017 I lost a J-Lo’. And finally, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez (February 2017-present) J Rod? Jalex? Lexifer? And so we come full circle. After a number of failed marriages and not-quite-there-yet relationships, it seems J Lo has finally found the perfect man for her. Jennifer and Alex bumped into each other in Beverley Hills after meeting a few times over the years. She revealed to Vanity Fair magazine that when she saw him, she’d ‘almost yelled out “Alex.”’
They are a beautiful couple (Picture: WireImage) Though she had been ‘shy’ to go over and say hello, she’d plucked up the courage and said ‘hi’. A-Rod took the hint and called her that afternoon to have dinner with him a few nights later. J Lo channelled us all when she admitted that she wasn’t even sure if it was a friendly catch-up or a full blown date. ‘I don’t know if he thought it was a date.
I thought it was a date,” Lopez added. “He was nervous, and it was really cute.’ He blew her doubts away after he went to the bathroom and text her to let her know she looked ‘sexy.’ The pair have been inseparable ever since, and they have nothing but loving things to say about one another. J Lo admitted: ‘I understand him in a way that I don’t think anyone else could. And he understands me in a way that no one else could ever.’ Awwwww.
