Delta Police Arrest IPOB Group Attempting To Set Police Station On Fire


Asaba – Delta State Police Command has arrested some members of the outlawed Independent People Of Biafra (IPOB) group in their large number.

They were said to have invaded and attacked ‘A’ Division Police Station, Asaba while armed with guns, daggers, knives, fuel and other dangerous weapons with the aim of setting the police station on fire.

In their desperate bid to raze down the station, the hoodlums attacked and open fire at the Police men for resisting them.

But the Police men led by the DPO was said to have promptly replied fire forcing the hoodlums to beat a retreat.

During the melee, four members of the groups were arrested namely, Nwafor Ifeanyi (M) aged 33years, Ifeanyi Nwafor (M), Arinze Orji (M) aged 21 and one Ekene Otakpo, who sustained gun injury and presently receiving treatment at FMC, Asaba.

According to ASP Chuks Orisemwezie, Police Image Maker of the command, items recovered from the arrested suspects includes; one pump action gun with four hire cartridges and two expended cartridges, assorted suspected criminal charms, four  dagger knives, four IPOB flags, plat cards bearing referendum, Asaba get ready for your referendum today and ten litres of petrol.

He said on preliminary investigation suspects admitted being members of IPOB. Suspects and exhibits handed over to State CIID for investigation.
