At least nine persons, including five children, died while five others were injured when their car hit another vehicle in India’s Northern State of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
According to a report by “India Today,’’ the road mishap occurred in the state’s Lalitpur District.
The ill-fated car was going towards Sagar in the central state of Madhya Pradesh.
The five injured persons are said to be in serious condition and have been admitted to a local hospital.
Road accidents are common in India.
In 2017, no fewer than 146,377 people died in road accidents across India, out of which Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest 20,142 deaths.
In 2016, Uttar Pradesh also recorded the highest number of deaths in road accidents, at 19,320.
The main reasons for road mishaps and human casualties are bad conditions of roads, careless driving, not following traffic signals and other traffic rules.
Besides, drunk driving is one major cause of road accidents in the country.
